Ans. The reason that the vendor gave for not giving away a bowl of noodles to the old starving old man is because the vendor could not give a bowl of noodles to a man who could afford to buy it. No, it is not a valid reason because the old man was saving money for the seeds for his country people so that they do not suffer from starvation for another year. Even though the noodle seller was poor still he could have afford to provide at least one free small bowl of noodles to the old man.

Ans. The old man bought just one small bowl of noodles to feed his grandson and save the rest of the money to buy seeds to sow the land. This shows that he was kind - hearted and caring as he bought a small bowl of noodles for his grandson and was selfless. He was very concerned about his grandson's future.

Q. Describe the physical condition of the wizened old man?

Ans. The wizened old man carried heavy loads on his shoulders and it was evident that he was beyond the age of work. It looked as if he was not used to much labor. His breath whistled as he staggered along and he strained his eyes to watch those who were ahead of him lest he be left behind, and his old wrinkled face was set in a sort of gasping agony.
